Denver Domestic Partnership Attorneys
Colorado doesn't have same-sex marriage. However, same-sex couples can secure many of the same rights as married couples by completing a domestic partnership agreement.
At the Law Office of W. Robert Montgomery in Denver, Colorado, we represent gay and lesbian couples who want to spell out their rights and obligations toward each other in a legal contract.
What Rights Do Domestic Partnership Agreements Provide?
A domestic partnership agreement is a legal contract that can provide many (but not all) of the rights and obligations of marriage.
Here are some examples of rights you can spell out in a legal contract:
- Property rights, including the right to an equitable division of debts and assets if the relationship ends
- The right to support or maintenance if the relationship ends
- Child custody, visitation and support of children adopted during the relationship
- The right to visit your partner in the hospital if he or she is sick
- Some employers provide health insurance and other benefits to domestic partners. However, employers are not required to and not all do.
Our lawyers can also create estate planning documents to provide your partner with the right to inherit, to make health care decisions for you under a health care power of attorney, to make financial decisions under a financial power of attorney, and the right to carry out your end-of-life decisions under a living will.
