Divorce/Marriage Dissolution

Denver Divorce Attorneys

No one enters a marriage expecting it to end in divorce. When a marriage ends, the experience is often grueling, both legally and emotionally. Having a lawyer who is caring, compassionate and experienced can make the process less traumatic.

At the Law Office of W. Robert Montgomery in Denver, Colorado, we believe that divorce should be handled quickly, economically and as painlessly as possible so you can move on to the next phase of your life.

Contested and Uncontested Divorce

Our lawyers handle all types of divorces, from uncontested cases to the most difficult marital dissolutions. We are also experienced in drafting declarations of invalidity (annulments) and legal separation agreements.

We will assist our clients with all issues that may be involved in a divorce, including child custody, child support, visitation rights, asset valuations, equitable division of assets and debt, alimony (called spousal maintenance in Colorado) and restraining orders.

There are a lot of myths about common law marriage in Colorado. Colorado is one of only seven states that have common law marriage. Many people assume you have to live together for seven years to be married by common law, but that is not true. All it requires to be common-law married in Colorado is to have an intent to be married, to have the capacity to enter into a marital relationship, and to hold yourselves out to be husband and wife. To end a common law marriage, you must go through the same legal process as people who are married. However, in practicality, common law marriages are hard to prove.

Our goal is to help you resolve your divorce with as little animosity as possible, especially when children are involved. However, if litigation is required, we are prepared to proceed to go down that road and represent your interests aggressively.
